Travelling to Lakshadweep just got significantly simpler! In an attempt to elicit a tourism boost, the Union Territory administration has eased several
long-standing entry permit rules for domestic travellers. Under the revised tourist permit rules, domestic tourists will no longer require a prior police clearance certificate. Earlier, applicants had to obtain and upload this document before submitting their permit request. Now, however, security checks will be conducted directly by the Lakshadweep Police after applications are submitted. This exception existed owing to the fact that Lakshadweep is a restricted area. But with the rule having been eased up, the Union Territory is sure to land up on several getaway lists for the summer months ahead. Read this before you plan a trip to its turquoise lagoons, coral reefs and white-sand beaches.
Best Time to Visit Lakshadweep
The most popular time to visit Lakshadweep is between October and March, widely considered its peak season. Temperatures during this stretch typically range between 27C to 32C, rarely fluctuating. The clear skies, calm seas and excellent visibility for water activities makes this a rather bustling time to visit and explore the islands through activities like snorkeling, diving and kayaking. If leisurely beach days are more your vibe, you are sure to find a spot in the Agatti and Bangaram Islands. The pleasant weather naturally draws more visitors, which can reflect in higher hotel tariffs.Lakshadweep’s monsoon stretch from June to September brings heavy rainfall and rough seas. The rains may even descend sooner, some time around mid-May. The rains have the lagoons turn deep and the island stretches, moody. Travel and exploration-wise, this may not be a very practical time for travel, as ferry services, water sports and inter-island connectivity can be significantly affected depending on the intensity of the rains. Monsoon is firmly considered off-season here.
April to early May marks the summer stretch in Lakshadweep, with temperatures ranging between 22C to 36C. While the days can feel warm and humid, the sea breeze does ease up the overall experience. This window still allows for water-based activities, though it is advisable to plan them away from the top-Sun hours of the day.
