Planning a New Year trip can feel chaotic, especially when you're trying to balance budget, travel time and vibes. The good news? You don't have to travel far
or empty your bank account. There are plenty of places close enough for a quick escape but far enough to feel like a reset – all under ₹10,000 including stay, food, and basic travel if you plan smart. Whether you want mountains, cosy cafés, adventure or just a slow, lazy break, these nearby getaways will give you the breather you need.
Lansdowne
Lansdowne is one of those rare hill stations that hasn’t turned into a massive commercial circus (yet). The pace here is slow and comforting. You can start your morning with a walk around Tip-in-Top Point or visit the quiet St Mary’s Church that dates back to colonial times. The lake, Bhulla Tal, is perfect if all you want is a paddle boat ride and some time in the sun. Evenings are best spent sipping chai while watching the sky turn peach and purple. Some hotels host small bonfire nights and acoustic music sessions for New Year’s Eve as well.
Kasol
Kasol attracts everyone — backpackers, trekkers, music lovers and people who just want a bit of mountain magic without complicated travel. Walk down to the Parvati River and you’ll instantly understand why people keep coming back. If you're up for mild adventure, cross the suspension bridge and head to Chalal, or take a slightly longer scenic hike to Tosh. Cafés like Evergreen or Moon Dance Bakery are great pit stops when hunger or cold hits. It’s scenic and chill, but you’ll definitely find people dancing past midnight.
Rishikesh
If your ideal New Year feels spiritual and soothing, Rishikesh fits beautifully. You can sit by the Ganga at Triveni Ghat, watch the evening Ganga Aarti and feel the whole town fall silent in reverence. Adventure is never far either — river rafting, bungee jumping at Mohanchatti or exploring the graffiti-filled walls of the abandoned Beatles Ashram adds contrast to the otherwise calm city. Rishikesh gives you space to reconnect with yourself, which is a pretty good way to start a new year.
Shimla
Shimla still holds its old-school charm. The Mall Road walk with steaming momos, the stunning Christ Church, and the view from the Ridge make it feel straight out of a postcard. If you’re someone who enjoys busy touristy places, Shimla’s lively cafés and quick sightseeing points make the trip feel full and exciting. A short drive to Mashobra or Chadwick Falls can give you a quieter break without leaving the region. Budget stays are plenty if you book early.
If you want a proper celebration, check hotel events or rooftop parties — a few places have live music or DJ nights if you want a full countdown experience.
Kufri
Just half an hour from Shimla, Kufri has a different vibe. It’s famous for winter snowfall, so there’s a chance you’ll ring in the New Year with crunchy white snow under your shoes. Activities like skiing, ziplining and yak rides at Kufri Fun World add a bit of adventure to the otherwise peaceful terrain. Many resorts host NYE bonfires, DJ nights and group dinners. Even just sitting with a bowl of steaming Maggi while watching snow-dusted pine trees feels like a holiday highlight.
Jaipur, Rajasthan
If mountains aren’t calling, Jaipur’s royal charm is always an easy yes. You can explore the stunning Amber Fort, catch sunset at Nahargarh, stroll around the City Palace, or lose yourself in the markets of Bapu Bazaar and Johari Bazaar. When night hits, the city transforms — lounges, rooftop bars and hotels host big New Year parties. The food alone is worth the trip — dal baati churma, pyaaz kachori, ghewar — the list never ends. Jaipur has colour, culture, and character, and it never disappoints as a year-end getaway.
