What is the story about?
If you feel like easing yourself into a slower rhythm without practicing any intentional mindfulness, start planning your trip to the near-meditative hills
of Coorg. The district of Coorg is for the most part, unhurried, which is the foundation of its natural beauty, save for the simple hum of daily life that keeps the coffee estates, homestays and small town centres lively through the day. Often called the 'Scotland of India' for its pristine, symmetrical and evergreen expanses, Coorg’s rolling plantations, misty landscapes and rich Kodava culture makes it an incredibly worthy year-round escape.
Best Time to Visit Coorg
The most popular time to visit Coorg is between October and March, widely considered its peak season. The temperatures in Coorg during this stretch of the year are objectively pleasant temperatures ranging between 15C to 25C. This is the perfect time to tour Coorg the natural way - through plantation walks, waterfall visits and simply soaking in the sights and sounds of major tourist attractions like the Raja's Seat and Abbey Falls. The weather is a major attraction when it comes to drawing in crowds during these months, which is reflected in the higher hotel tariffs and the general increase in street activity. If you’re looking for a quieter pace, this is still an ideal time, provided you stick to the stays located deeper into the plantations.Coorg’s monsoon stretch from June to September heightens the district's lush landscape. The coffee estates deepen in colour, waterfalls appear far more dramatic and the mist settles into the hills for prolonged stretches. The overall pace slows down significantly owing to the heavy rainfall. As mesmerising as the sights and sounds are during this time, it is not the best for sightseeing and exploration as heavy rains can lead to slippery roads and limit outdoor movement.
April to May marks summer time in Coorg, with temperatures ranging between 15C to 35C. While the afternoons can feel warm, they are still far more pleasant than the soaring temperatures across the rest of the country. Sightseeing is still very possible during this time, provided you plan around the Sun's peak hours.
