What is the story about?
The Indian Railways is all set to launch the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express right before Diwali. The train is expected to begin operations
by the end of September, as per reports. It will be linking Delhi with Patna and then possibly extending to Darbhanga or Sitamarhi in Bihar. The service is expected to begin in late September or early October. Until now, Vande Bharat trains have been offering seating through AC chair cars. No matter how comfortable these are, long journeys can be a bit tiresome. Now, with the introduction of sleeper coaches, passengers can travel long distances overnight and be as comfortable.
More Details
The train will run between Delhi and Patna via Prayagraj. It will have a travel time of 11.5 hours. Currently, trains on this route take between 12 and 17 hours and the Rajdhani Express takes about 23 hours.
According to the proposed schedule, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will depart from Patna at 8 pm and reach Delhi by 7:30 am. The return journey will follow a similar overnight timetable.
Some of the main features of the train include:
- Maximum speed of 180 km/h
- CCTV cameras for passenger security
- Automatic sensor doors
- Advanced fire safety systems
- Aircraft-style interiors for the comfort of passengers
Ticket Prices
Reports suggest that the fares will be 10–15% higher than Rajdhani Express tickets on the same route. However, the officials have justified the price hike, saying passengers will benefit from faster travel and better facilities.Meanwhile, earlier, reports suggested that Indian Railways will also be launching a sleeper class train for the busy Delhi-Howrah route. This new sleeper train will run at a speed of up to 160 km/h - covering the distance of 1,449 km between Delhi and Howrah in just 15 hours.
Some of the important stations of this route are:
- Kanpur Central
- Prayagraj Junction
- DD Upadhyay Junction
- Dhanbad Junction
- Gaya Junction
- Asansol Junction
