If you’ve ever felt anxious, tired, or just plain grumpy before a flight, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) might have found the perfect
solution: four paws and a wagging tail. In a move that will bring joy to animal lovers, RGIA has launched a Therapy Dog Programme featuring adorable Toy Poodles trained to provide emotional comfort to travellers. The initiative, currently in its pilot phase, is designed to ease travel-related stress and add a little extra joy to the airport experience. Studies have shown that interacting with therapy dogs can significantly reduce stress levels. Stroking a dog lowers blood pressure and heart rate, while also promoting the release of feel-good hormones like oxytocin. For anxious flyers, this translates into a more relaxed and enjoyable airport experience. And judging by the early response, it's already doing just that. Passengers travelling through select domestic and international departure zones from Friday to Monday between 3 pm and 7 pm may spot these furry companions, accompanied by professional handlers. Each canine is well-trained and ready to offer emotional support to you on your next journey! The programme is run by GMR Group, which operates the airport, and is part of a broader push to create a more people-centric travel experience. Officials at RGIA said the response so far has been “overwhelmingly positive,” with many travellers praising the calming presence of the dogs.
