Delhi might never see snowflakes drifting down its streets, but that’s not stopping the capital from bringing the magic of ice to its doorstep. Soon, travellers
and locals alike will be able to lace up their skates and glide across a world-class ice rink in Dwarka, a first for the city and a glimpse of what winter sports can look like in India. Designed for both professional athletes and recreational visitors, the rink aims to put the capital on India’s winter sports map, even though Delhi is more famous for its sweltering summers than snow.
Ice-Skating Rink In Dwarka
The rink will be part of the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) sports complex in Sector 23, Dwarka, strategically located within the cloverleaf near the Dwarka Expressway and the airport tunnel to IGI Terminal 3. Spanning 4,200 sq m with a 60m x 30m ice surface, it will be large enough to host ice skating, ice hockey, figure skating, and curling, a sport where players slide stones towards a target area called the "house." This development is one of several projects under the guidance of Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, aimed at boosting recreational infrastructure in the city.
According to DDA officials, the vision is clear: to create a venue that works for both serious athletes and casual skaters. Plans include spectator seating for live events, changing areas and service facilities, accessibility features for all ages and skill levels, a digital ticketing and scheduling system as well as interactive displays for visitors.

Boosting Winter Sports In Delhi
“Interest in ice hockey, figure skating, and curling is growing in India, but there’s a shortage of professional facilities,” a DDA statement noted. “This rink will give enthusiasts in the National Capital a proper space to train, compete, and host events.” By building this world-class venue, the DDA hopes to transform Dwarka into a centre for winter sports, while also providing a year-round indoor recreation option for Delhiites. Also Read: Philippines Is Now Visa Free For Indians; Direct Delhi-Manila Flights To Launch In October
