The highly anticipated Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be fully operational any time after June 20. Once that happens, the 1,386 km-long expressway will cut
travel time between Delhi and Mumbai to just 12 hours, making it one of the fastest road corridors in India. The expressway will connect major cities, including Gurugram, Jaipur, Kota, Indore, Vadodara, Surat and Navi Mumbai, directly or through feeder routes. It will also link Delhi to key infrastructure hubs like Jewar Airport and Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The trip between Gurugram and Dausa has now been reduced to just 2.5 hours, enhancing connectivity and making travel more efficient. The ambitious project was initially launched in 2019. It is true that the extensive section connecting Delhi to Gujarat was completed earlier but the overall project faced minor delays due to challenges in securing the necessary land, which have hindered progress on the expressway. Despite these setbacks, the project remains a key focus for improving connectivity and infrastructure across the country. Built at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 1 lakh-crore, the expressway is now in its final stages of completion. Once it is done, the expressway will be completed. For the first time, an eight-lane highway is being built directly underneath an ecologically fragile zone, specifically the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve. As per reports, this tunnel will become operation after final safety clearances. The main aim of this tunnel is to keep all the traffic underground and minimising disruption to the wildlife in the region.
