In what comes as a major development for all the road trip lovers, Uttar Pradesh's Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway is expected to cut travel time between Delhi
NCR and Nepal to just 8 hours. The expressway will be interlinking the western and eastern parts of the state to each other. Also, the new expressway will ease travel to Bihar and its nearby regions.
All About The Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway
This 742-km project is estimated to cost around ₹40,000 crore. Once it is completed, this expressway will make travel between Delhi-NCR and the Nepal border much more convenient. Also, people travelling from Panipat or Delhi can drive from the corridor at Shamli and reach Kushinagar or Bihar much quicker than they can now. According to multiple media reports, officials believe that the drive will take just about 8 hours in some parts.
The route is expected to pass through many key stops, including Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gorakhpur, and Kushinagar, among others. It will be constructed in a manner where you can maintain speed and safety within four lanes that can be expanded later if required. The expressway will also feature big bridges and flyovers, and there will be a lot of exits to connect with significant towns along the way.

If things go as planned, the Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2030. As per reports, there ae bigger plans for the future to link the road all the way to Siliguri in West Bengal. This would form a huge high-speed network across the entire northern and eastern parts of the country.

Meanwhile, upcoming Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is set to ease travel between the two major cities in Uttar Pradesh, offering faster and smoother connectivity across a 63 km stretch. Built as a six-lane, access-controlled corridor, the expressway is among UP's shortest expressways and will take just 45 minutes instead of 3 hours. However, travellers will have to pay 3 times the toll as compared to the National Highway. For car owners, the one-way toll for the full stretch will be Rs 275, while a return journey within 24 hours will cost Rs 415. This pricing is expected to benefit daily commuters who frequently travel between Lucknow and Kanpur for work or business.
