When Hrithik Roshan shared glimpses of his recent trekking holiday in Uttarakhand, it struck a familiar chord with mountain lovers across India. Who doesn't
want to escape the smog of Indian cities and head to the hills to experience snow-lined trails and quiet forests! And the actor did just that. Sharing glimpses from his trekking adventure, Hrithik wrote on Instagram: "Something about trekking undulating surfaces makes my heart smile with joy. Dammit , let's go back to the way it was supposed to be under my feet ! #uttarakhand ❤️ love you." And we completely agree. Uttarakhand, after all, has long been the go-to state for winter trekking in India, offering routes that are scenic without being intimidating and adventurous without needing expert-level skills. If Hrithik’s mountain moment has you itching to lace up your boots, these five winter treks deserve a spot on your travel moodboard.
Kedarkantha Trek
The Kedarkantha trek is also known as the "Queen of Winter treks". It is a moderate-level summit trek in the Garhwal hills of Uttarakhand. It starts in the small village of Sankri and leads through the camps, offering panoramic views of the Snow-capped mountains. It is suitable for both beginners and seasoned trekkers. It takes about 5 days to complete the trek.
Dayara Bugyal Trek
Easy to moderate in difficulty, this trek takes you through beautiful forests of pine, oak, and maple. Undertaken in Uttarkashi, it offers views of sweeping meadows and ancient towns. The best time to do the Dayara Bugyal Trek is from November to March. It also showcases panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges, including Bandarpoonch.
Brahmatal Trek, Chamoli
Brahmatal is what winter trekking dreams are made of. Wide meadows buried in snow, quiet forest trails, and constant views of Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti. Unlike some routes that lose visibility in winter, Brahmatal offers dramatic Himalayan vistas almost throughout the trek.
Nag Tibba Trek, Near Mussoorie
If Hrithik’s Uttarakhand getaway made you want a quick mountain fix, Nag Tibba is your answer. Often dubbed the “weekend trek,” it’s one of the easiest winter treks in Uttarakhand and perfect for those short on time. Snowfall in January and February adds a magical touch to this otherwise gentle trail.
Kuari Pass Trek, Chamoli
Popularised by Lord Curzon, Kuari Pass is a classic Himalayan trek that becomes especially striking in winter. Snow-covered trails, oak and rhododendron forests, and uninterrupted views of peaks like Nanda Devi make this trek feel both spectacular and fun.
