More Details Of India's First Ever Bullet Train
The train will start from the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, and connect to Gujarat's Vapi, Surat, Anand, Vadodara and Ahmedabad. It will be running at a high speed of 320 km per hour. To complete this project sooner, the Indian Railways has accelerated work on the bullet train corridor between Vapi and Sabarmati in Gujarat. The main aim is to complete this stretch by December 2027.However, the entire project, which will launch India’s first bullet train from Maharashtra to Sabarmati, is expected to be completed by December 2029.
The complete project is currently under development with both technical and financial support from Japan. The high-speed bullet train is expected to pass through Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. As of now, there have been 12 stations planned, including, Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.
The total cost of this project is around ₹1,08,000 crore. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is funding 81% of this amount. The remaining 19% is being financed through equity contributions from the Ministry of Railways and the governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat. As of now, authorities have already spent a total of ₹78,839 crore.
As per media reports, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has informed Parliament that out of 28 tender packages, 24 have been awarded. In terms of construction progress, workers have completed 393 km of pier construction, 329 km of girder casting, and 308 km of girder launching.
