When Does Manali Actually Get Snowfall?

While Manali’s peaks stay powdered for most of the winter, snowfall in the main town follows a pattern almost every year. It often sees its first snowfall in late November, with chances of snowfall going up by mid-December.

However, in January and February, Manali at its peak with thick snow carpeting most of the region. This is the BEST time to visit if you want guaranteed snow but it is also a little tricky in terms of commute as snowfall also closes roads very often.

Best Places In Manali To Enjoy Snowfall

Solang Valley

Just 14 km away, Solang is the poster child of winter fun. Think skiing, zorbing, snow trails and snow scooters. It is also where the crowd is, so if you don't mind rubbing shoulders with other travelers, this is the best place in Manali to see snow.

Rohtang Pass

If Rohtang is open, lucky you. This pass often sees snowfall early December and is perfect for travellers who've never seen snow. You can also use the Atal Tunnel to go to Lahaul for a more off-grid winter experience.

Mall Road

If shopping is on your mind, make your way to the city's eponymous Mall Road, where you can get your hand on trinkets and also get a taste of pahadi food at one of the many cosy cafes that lines the streets.

Hadimba Temple & Old Manali

The ancient cedar forest around Hadimba Temple turns ethereal after snowfall. Then walk into Old Manali, a hub for backpackers and young tourists, which is filled with boho cafés and boasts a picture-perfect snow-village charm.

Bhrigu Lake Trek

If you can brave sub-zero temperatures and a winter trek, Bhrigu Lake in winter is a bucket list experience. An interesting aspect of Bhrigu Lake is the local belief that the waters of the lake possess healing properties.
