Rann Utsav is set to make a significant expansion by including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dholavira for the first time ever. This renowned cultural
festival, which celebrates the rich traditions and vibrant spirit of Kutch, Gujarat, will run from October 23, 2025, to March 2026. Exploring Dholavira The addition of Dholavira marks a historic change for Rann Utsav, which has not expanded its geographical reach in 20 years. Dholavira, an ancient Harappan city established around 3000 BCE, is known for its advanced urban planning, sophisticated water management systems, and significant trade connections. The site's well-preserved ruins offer a glimpse into the architectural and cultural advancements of the Indus Valley Civilisation. The theme for Rann Utsav 2025, 'Adhura Nahi Pura Kutch Dekhiye', encourages attendees to delve deeper into the cultural heritage of central Kutch, beyond the traditional festivities associated with the White Rann. This initiative not only highlights the historical importance of Dholavira but also aims to enhance the overall festival experience for visitors. Activities and Sustainability Initiatives Rann Utsav 2025 promises a diverse range of activities that blend leisure with adventure. Attendees can engage in various sports, including cricket, trampolining, and bull rides, while also enjoying cultural performances that reflect the local heritage. Dholavira will feature a specially designed Tent City, themed around the Harappan civilisation, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the historical context of the area. Sustainability is a primary focus for this year's festival. Organisers plan to implement eco-friendly measures, including the use of sustainable tents, LED lighting, and enhanced waste management systems. In addition to adventure activities, guests can participate in storytelling sessions, craft exhibitions, and meet local artisans, further supporting the region's economy. The inclusion of Dholavira in Rann Utsav 2025 is expected to significantly boost tourism in Kutch while providing economic opportunities for local businesses. By showcasing the wonders of the Indus Valley civilisation, the festival aims to attract a wider audience, both domestic and international. With the White Rann Tent City in Dhordo remaining the heart of the festival, visitors now have the unique opportunity to experience the cultural richness of Kutch through the lens of Dholavira's historical significance. Rann Utsav 2025 not only celebrates the region's traditions but also underscores the importance of sustainable tourism practices.
