For domestic flights, most travellers reach the airport at least two hours early. For international travel—especially if you’re flying out of Delhi’s IGI
Airport—arriving three to four hours before boarding has become standard practice. Long queues, multiple checks and the fear of missing a flight make most people play it safe. But this year, the government has rolled out a programme that promises to make the immigration process faster and far less stressful. That programme is now getting attention after Bollywood stars Rani Mukerji and Sushmita Sen signed up for India’s Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP). The initiative is being actively promoted by the Bureau of Immigration, which has been sharing videos of celebrities registering for the service and using automated e-gates at major international airports. The Trusted Traveller Programme is aimed at Indian citizens and OCI cardholders who travel frequently. Once approved, registered users can use e-gates at select international airports, significantly cutting down waiting time during departures and arrivals. According to experiences of travellers on social media, this program can actually get you on the other side of the immigration queue in less than 15 minutes!

The Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Program (FTI-TTP) can help you skip the queues and clear immigration very quickly all thanks to automated e-gates and biometric authentication.First launched at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in June 2024, the program was officially expanded by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 16, 2025, to seven more major airports: Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Cochin, and Ahmedabad. And that’s just the beginning—plans are in place to roll it out across 21 major Indian airports in the near future.
