As per Zostel's Women's day report, there is a surge in solo female travel - and why not. There is nothing like exploring a new city or country on your
own terms. The report suggests that the number of bookings went from 33,357 in 2018 to 92,192 in 2025. To everyone's surprise, the number has actually surged fivefold since the pandemic low. This change is being driven by multiple factors: increasing financial independence, flexible work options, and having a cultural acceptance of women prioritizing their own joy and personal growth. Its not like old times. Many women have learnt to shed the guilt of putting themselves first. Whether it is a retreat in Rishikesh or a beach break in Bali, women are up and about. But where are these women going?
Where Are These Women Headed To?
Women are increasingly exploring destinations that are barely considered as “safe” choices! They are now actively exploring offbeat destinations such as Shillong, Varkala, and Wayanad. Of course, destinations like Mumbai, Gokarna, Lonavala, Goa, and Jaipur remain the top destinations for solo women travellers but new additions to the list have also been made. Also Read: The Planet’s Largest Iceberg Is Dying And It Could Change Antarctica Forever
One of the most important factors women consider when planning a solo trip is safety and ease of travel. Goa and Jaipur, for long, have been established as tourist destination that are easily accessible. In Goa, the tourism ecosystem is very well developed. From beach shacks and boutique hostels to rental scooters and much more, travellers have plenty of options to move around comfortably. Then there is the presence of international tourists and a thriving backpacker culture - creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Jaipur, on the other hand, offers a very different kind of comfort. As one of India's most visited heritage cities, it has a really well-organised tourism network. Many women travellers appreciate the fact that the city offers a lot to explore within a manageable distance. This is also makes it easy to plan a solo itinerary.
Karnataka's Gokarna has stolen a bit of that limelight from Goa. Away from the city's hustle and bustle, Gokarna has emerged as a destination for those who are seeking seclusion and connection with nature. Renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, this coastal town offers an array of experiences. Whether you're a beach lover, an avid trekker, or a spiritual seeker, Gokarna has something for everyone.
