New App Icons Emerge
WhatsApp is set to introduce a fresh batch of visual identity options with the upcoming premium subscription. Users will soon be able to choose from a selection
of 14 distinct app icons, moving beyond the traditional green branding. These new designs include creative variations such as 'Aurora,' 'Fluffy,' 'Galaxy,' 'Clay,' 'Sparkle,' and 'Neon,' each offering a unique aesthetic. Alongside these, the platform is also experimenting with seven monochromatic single-color icons, offering choices in brown, purple, orange, green, blue, pink, and a pure monochrome option. For those who prefer the classic look, the ability to revert to the recently updated default WhatsApp icon will also be retained, ensuring a familiar experience for all users.
Accent Colors & Themes
Beyond just icons, WhatsApp is enhancing the overall app appearance with a significant expansion of accent color options and the introduction of app themes. Users will be presented with a palette of 19 distinct accent colors, including choices like royal blue, violet, coral, teal, burgundy, olive green, pink, red, and golden yellow. While the familiar default green will remain available, these new accent colors will dynamically alter key interface elements. These include the tabs, filters, floating action buttons, and other interactive components, allowing for a more personalized and visually comfortable chat environment. This broad spectrum of choices aims to cater to diverse user preferences and improve the overall aesthetic appeal of the application.
Premium Subscription Model
These new visual customization tools are slated to be part of a new premium package, an optional upgrade for users who wish to enhance their WhatsApp experience. While the core messaging functionalities will continue to be available for free to all users, these aesthetic enhancements will be locked behind this paid tier. The exact pricing for this premium offering is yet to be revealed and may vary based on geographical location. WhatsApp is still in the process of finalizing the complete suite of features for this premium product. The rollout of these new customization capabilities is expected to occur in stages, initially reaching a select group of beta testers following successful internal testing. User feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the final feature set before a wider public release.
