What's Happening?
Luxembourg has successfully launched its Earth Observation System satellite, known as LUXEOSys, into orbit on August 26 from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The satellite was carried aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Developed by OHB Italia S.p.A., LUXEOSys is part of Luxembourg's Defence Space Strategy and is designed as a very-high-resolution low Earth orbit optical satellite system. The satellite includes a platform, optical payload, and ground segment. A key component of the satellite is the Jupiter space camera provided by Israel's Elbit Systems, which offers a panchromatic ground sampling distance of 30 cm at an altitude of 450 km, allowing it to distinguish features as small as 30 cm. The multispectral ground sampling distance is 1.2 m at the same altitude. The camera's swath is 12 km, with an aperture of 70 cm and a spectral range of 0.45–0.9 µm. The satellite is designed to operate for eight years.
