China's telecommunications industry has experienced significant growth in the first half of 2025, with the country's four main mobile operators—China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Broadnet—adding a combined total of 104 million new 5G subscribers. This increase has pushed the total number of 5G users in China to over 1.1 billion, accounting for 61% of all mobile connections in the country. China Mobile, the largest operator, contributed the most to this growth, adding 47 million 5G customers, bringing its total to nearly 600 million subscribers. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reported that the number of 5G base stations has also increased, with 298,000 new stations added, totaling 4.55 million by the end of June.
