Things looked extremely promising for the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but it all fell apart in the final minutes. After Atlanta surrendered a late touchdown and two-point conversion, quarterback Michael Penix Jr. suffered a rib injury with 26 seconds left in the game.
The Falcons were unable to get close enough for a walk-off field goal and the game went into overtime. The Ravens got the ball first and marched right down for the go-ahead touchdown. With a chance to tie, Tua Tagovailoa stepped in and promptly an interception to end the game.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski had to be disappointed as his team was minutes away from a third-straight win in prime time. Instead, Stefanski is now back
to answering questions about his quarterback's health.
"Injury front: C.J. Henderson has a groin injury. Mike Penix has a rib injury. We'll know more as we get imaging and those type of things," Stefanski said to open his post-game press conference.
The Falcons head coach went on to explain what happened in Sunday's heart-breaking loss.
"Credit to Baltimore," said Stefanski. "Obviously we didn't do enough to win that game. We had missed opportunities, and when you're playing a good football team, and the margins are razor thin like we knew they would be, we've got to come through on some of those plays."
When asked about potentially Penix returning, Stefanski said they were trying to see how the quarterback felt on the sideline.
"Yeah, he was trying to work to get comfortable and could not."
Here's Stefanski's full post-game press conference, as shared by the team's YouTube channel below.
