The best thing the Atlanta Falcons have going for them is running back Bijan Robinson, who can carry them to victories when they're able to play with a lead.
The next-best thing is the 9-to-5 connection between starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and their top wide receiver Drake London, which may soon overtake handing the ball off to Robinson as Atlanta's top option, offensively.
In last night's loss to the Baltimore Ravens, this duo put up another very sharp stat line, with London posting a game-high 118 receiving yards on just seven catches. That was the 15th game these two have played together, and the numbers they've put up are pretty incredible. Josh Kendall at The Athletic has the details.
"When Penix can stay on the field, he and London
are an electric duo. The pair have had a connection from the moment Penix arrived in Atlanta in 2024. Sunday was the 15th game London has played with Penix as his starting quarterback, and he has 102 catches for 1,550 yards and eight touchdowns in those games."
They're not doing it by dinking and dunking, either. Practically every completion from Penix to London this season has gone for an explosive gain. London is averaging 18.1 yards per reception this year, which is the fourth-highest mark in the NFL despite him having played with Cooper Rush for two out of five games.
London still hasn't scored a touchdown this season, but it's only a matter of time. Meanwhile, practically every other number is on pace for a career-best for London, including a 73% catch rate, which is 10% higher than his career average - 97.6 yards per game, which is over 30 yards more than his career average - and 13.2 yards per target, five yards better than his career mark.
Penix exited Sunday's loss to the Ravens with a rib injury but the team is "optimistic" that he will return next week against the Chicago Bears.
