The Atlanta Falcons completely revamped their wide receiver room over the offseason, releasing veterans Darnell Mooney and KhaDarel Hodge at the start of the 2026 league year. Mooney had nearly 1,000 receiving yards in 2024, while Hodge made the Pro Bowl due to his special teams contributions.
Both players saw their production dip in 2025, which led to their eventual release. Mooney landed with the New York Giants, but Hodge is still looking for his next NFL home. The market appears to be heating up somewhat since the start of training camp, though.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Hodge was one of three wide receivers to try out with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday.
"Buffalo tried out veteran WRs KhaDarel Hodge, Dante Pettis and Isaiah Whitehead,"
reported Schefter. Unfortunately for Hodge, the Bills went on to sign Pettis to their roster.
The Falcons could still use more depth at the wide receiver position, and Hodge is a proven special-teams stud. Plus, head coach Kevin Stefanski does have some familiarity with Hodge. They were both with the Cleveland Browns during the 2020 NFL season.
Hodge, 31, has recorded 67 catches for 1,026 receiving yards and two touchdowns over eight NFL seasons in Los Angeles, Cleveland, Detroit and Atlanta.

Atlanta did bring back another familiar face on Thursday, signing linebacker Josh Woods to the 90-man roster. Woods is another special teams ace who was previously unsigned in free agency.
