The Atlanta Falcons finally came to life against the Chicago Bears in the fourth quarter on Sunday afternoon, but it was a little too little, a little too late to avoid another loss and a 2-4 start to the 2026 season.
It's not going to get any easier this week, as the Falcons will be hosting the San Francisco 49ers, who were at the top of practically every power rankings list going into Week 6. It should come as no surprise that even though the Falcons are playing at home they are considered the underdogs for this matchup.
The 49ers are 5-0 going into tonight's game against the Washington Commanders, and it would come as a shock if they didn't emerge from it at 6-0.
It's fair to wonder how the last nine years might have unfolded differently if the Falcons
had fired Dan Quinn following their Super Bowl collapse and somehow managed to retain Kyle Shanahan as their head coach.
In the interim, Shanahan has established himself as the game's most-gifted offensive play-caller. If you need evidence look no further than the fact that his diminutive, highly-overrated starting quarterback Brock Purdy is considered the front-runner for this year's MVP award.
In any case, the Falcons will have their work cut out for them as they attempt to slow down an offense that currently ranks ninth in yardageand third in scoring this year.
