The Atlanta Falcons defense has performed far better than expectations this season, especially in light of their losses up front. However, this unit has developed a weakness in recent weeks thanks to injuries at cornerback.
The big one is the groin injury for top corner A.J. Terrell, who was placed on injured reserve a few weeks ago. His replacement C.J. Henderson has played well, but he also suffered a groin injury late in Sunday's loss to the Ravens. Tyler Huntley went right after his replacement, leading to the game-winning touchdown in overtime.
ESPN has identified the secondary injuries as a big weakness for the Falcons this week.
"But the Falcons' secondary has been banged up, with top cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr. (groin) on injured reserve
and his replacement C.J. Henderson (groin) being injured in Sunday's loss. Atlanta has only one interception this season; 27 teams have more. Coach Kevin Stefanski has preached winning the turnover battle, which means the Falcons need to generate more takeaway opportunities."
Terrell is expected to miss at least three more weeks and you can never have too much cornerback depth to begin with, so the Falcons should be in the market for another potential starting boundary corner right now - preferably one with some above-average ball skills.
However, a list of the top cornerbacks on the market is pretty underwhelming, and it's headlined by former Saints first-round pick Marshon Lattimore - who started his career out strong but fell off hard.
The Falcons front office may need to get creative to fill this void until Terrell is healthy again.
