With rookies reporting to training camp today, it's crunch time for the Atlanta Falcons front office when it comes to improving their roster ahead of the 2026 season.
On paper, the team has two big roster holes to address before Week 1: on defense, they need another solid starter to pair inside with Brandon Dorlus. On offense, they need another wide receiver to complement star Drake London and rookie Zachariah Branch.
Yesterday we learned that five-time All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill has "no power" right now in his left leg, which means we can scratch him off the list of potential additions at this spot.
The Falcons are still a good fit for the top available wide receiver on the market, though. Daniel Popper at The Athletic has connected Stefon Diggs
with Atlanta as his best landing spot.
"The Falcons drafted Zachariah Branch in the third round. Branch is explosive and projects as a YAC threat," wrote Popper. "Diggs can play inside and outside, which would leave slot snaps available for Branch. London, Diggs and Branch would form a well-rounded trio for whichever quarterback wins the starting job between Michael Penix and Tua Tagovailoa."
Diggs is a pain in the ass off the field, but he also has a much higher ceiling than Deebo Samuel, Keenan Allen and the other veterans who are still unsigned at this point.
Last year Diggs posted 85 catches, just over 1,000 receiving yards and four touchdowns - proving he can still produce despite being 32 years old. That wasn't an aberration, either. When healthy (15 games or more) Diggs hasn't failed to post less than 1,000 yards since 2017.
Diggs also has previous experience working with head coach Kevin Stefanski in Minnesota, adding another benefit to this potential reunion.
The only real question is how good of a fit Diggs would be with Atlanta's two-headed worm at quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa doesn't have the cannon to take full advantage of Diggs as a vertical threat. Meanwhile, Michael Penix does, but he doesn't have the accuracy needed for it to really pay off.
Even still, adding Diggs to the wide receiver corps would fix the team's most-pressing roster need and give them a significantly better chance of winning the division. The Falcons have more than enough cap space to sign Diggs and shouldn't wait until rosters are trimmed down to fill this hole.
