The Atlanta Falcons have the NFL's strangest quarterback room, and things seem to be getting weirder as the season goes on. Head coach Kevin Stefanski only made things more confusing at his Wednesday press conference.
"We don't have a quarterback yet for this week," said Stefanski. "We're working through it. I'm not ruling anyone out. Tua is not going to practice today, but he's getting better. Cooper and Mike will practice today, so we will work through it."
While fans continue to debate whether it will be Michael Penix Jr., Tua Tagovailoa, Cooper Rush or Jack Strand at QB in Week 2, Falcons running back Bijan Robinson shared his support for Penix on Wednesday.
“I know we’re ready to see Mike," said Robinson. "I know Mike’s ready for himself.
Forget what we think. It’s him. I know he wants to play football. I pray for the guys every day, all of the quarterbacks, but I know he wants to get out there & play because it's been a long time."
The Falcons left the door open for all four quarterbacks to potentially start against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but they aren't willing to state which QB is their preferred starter.

A case could be made that Robinson, who led the team with 173 all-purpose yards in Week 1, deserves to have a say in who starts. After all, he's the one who is carrying the load on offense. While Robinson is never one to stir the pot, I think it's safe to say that most fans would like to see what Penix can do in Stefanski's offense.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to know when that will be. Perhaps Robinson's comments are a sign that Penix is in fact in the mix to start in Week 2. We'll just have to wait (and wait) to see who the Falcons prefer as their QB1.
