The San Francisco 49ers poached Atlanta Falcons edge rusher Khalid Kareem off of the practice squad on Friday, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter. Kareem, who spent the last two years in Atlanta, was just added to the team's practice squad on Tuesday.
The former fifth-round pick now heads to San Francisco to reunite with 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, who worked with Kareem for two seasons when he was the head coach of the Falcons.
Meanwhile, Atlanta has been playing musical chairs with a few defensive linemen ever since last weekend's 53-man roster deadline. The team cut two former third-round picks in Zach Harrison and Bralen Trice, but both players returned to the practice squad.
Kareem's departure opened the door for Trice
to return. Trice, a former third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, missed his first two NFL seasons due to injuries.
Hopefully, Trice can make the most of this chance. After all, he was an exciting prospect coming out of Washington, and the Falcons could use some help along the edge.
