Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has played very well since returning to the starting lineup, leading the team to a 2-1 record over the last three weeks.
While Penix had the Falcons in position to win against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, he was unable to finish the game due to a rib injury. However, Penix is expected to be on the field for Sunday's home game against the Chicago Bears
.Despite his strong run of play, Penix dropped two spots in the latest quarterback rankings from Nick Shook at NFL.com. The third-year Falcons QB landed at No. 14 on the list going into Week 6.
"Michael Penix Jr. continued to play well in his third start and helped the Falcons build a lead. He should have all but sealed the win in the second half too,
when eligible tackle Jake Matthews dropped his accurate touchdown pass. Penix’s rib injury concerns me, but it sounds as if he avoided the worst outcome."
This is something that's largely been overlooked in the chatter about Sunday night's loss. If Matthews catches that pass, the game never goes to overtime and the Falcons would have a three-game winning streak going into their big matchup with the Bears.
Penix has been a bit shaky on his opening drives but otherwise has performed at a very high level in 2026. Heading into Week 6 Penix ranks second in yards per attempt, fourth in EPA/play and third in success rate.
