With the NFL trade deadline coming up in a couple of weeks, the Atlanta Falcons should be looking to buy if they are in the mood to make a move.
Every team can always use more depth at cornerback and on the edge, but right now the most-important roster need for this team is adding more firepower at wide receiver - where they have a top-heavy dynamic led by Drake London. Jahan Dotson has been far better than expected as a No. 2 option, but the Falcons still need a legitimate WR3 to complete the look at this position.
On that score, former Falcons wideout Calvin Ridley is worth a look, especially since the Tennessee Titans don't seem to be interested in using him much. Another name to watch is Jauan Jennings of the Minnesota Vikings, who ESPN has
linked to Atlanta as a potential trade destination.
"The Vikings' free agent addition is not a focal point of the offense and is considered a trade candidate leaguewide. But he did catch two passes for 34 yards Sunday against the Colts for a Minnesota passing game that's not exactly thriving right now. Jennings, who's on a one-year deal, could prove a low-cost option for teams looking to add to their receiver room. The 49ers are an obvious fit."
Jennings began his career with the Niners, who picked him in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. For a seventh-rounder he's had an impressive run so far, totaling 2,624 yards and 22 touchdowns in 80 games at this level.
Nobody is going to confuse Jennings with a Pro Bowler, but for a WR3 the Falcons aren't going to find many better options on the market right now. If Matt Ryan and Ian Cunningham believe that they can get Jennings for a Day 3 pick, it's worth serious consideration.
