Tonight's matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens could be an all-timer for fans of the run game. On the one side, there's five-time Pro Bowler and potential future Hall of Famer Derrick Henry, who led the NFL in rushing touchdowns (seven) coming into this week.
On the other, there's the hottest running back on the planet in Bijan Robinson, who's rolled for 339 total rushing yards and four touchdowns over the last two weeks, both dominant prime-time wins for the Falcons.
The Ravens have the best run defense that Atlanta will have faced so far this season, but at least one analyst is expecting Robinson to go off again. Garrett Podell at CBS Sports is projecting another 140+ rushing yard performance by Bijan, which would set
a new NFL record with four such performances in a row in prime-time games.
"Only two players in NFL history have run for 140-plus rushing yards in three consecutive primetime games: the league's all-time leading rusher, Emmitt Smith (1993-1994 and in 1995), and Atlanta Falcons All-Pro Bijan Robinson... Now, Robinson is looking to go for 140 yards rushing for a fourth primetime game in a row, something no one has yet accomplished in the league."
It helps his production that Tyler Allgeier is no longer around to vulture Robinson's red zone touches, but on film it's clear that whatever off-season training Robinson got up to is paying off in a big way.
As we saw on his 59-yard touchdown last week in New Orleans, Robinson has somehow added another gear to his game, giving him breakaway speed anytime he gets in space. That makes him a threat to score literally every time he touches the ball.
We may be witnessing the early stages of one of the most-special seasons any running back has ever had in the history of the game.
