The Atlanta Falcons are 0-2 after Sunday's embarrassing 34-3 blowout against the Carolina Panthers. Things got so bad that the Falcons turned to fourth-string quarterback Jack Strand in the third quarter of their Week 2 loss at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
As if Sunday's loss wasn't bad enough, former Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins added insult to injury on Sunday. Cousins passed for three touchdowns and an interception in the Las Vegas Raiders 26-14 upset of the Los Angeles Chargers.
The 38-year-old is tied for the league lead with six touchdowns passes and has the Raiders at 2-0 after Week 2. The Falcons released Cousins in March, ending his frustrating two-year run in Atlanta.
Las Vegas signed the veteran QB to help mentor No. 1 overall Fernando
Mendoza, but they make the mistake of giving Cousins $100 million in guaranteed money. Some thought the Falcons might bring back Cousins to reunite with Kevin Stefanski, but both sides needed a fresh start.
The Falcons have struggled to navigate their quarterback injuries thus far, and Cooper Rush hasn't gotten the job done. Rush was benched in the third quarter for Strand on Sunday, but the rookie didn't fare much better. Atlanta's quarterbacks combined to go 18/32 for 129 yards and three touchdowns.
On the bright side, Michael Penix Jr. is expected to return next week. However, we'll to wait and see what Kevin Stefanski says on Monday morning.
