The Atlanta Falcons were thoroughly outmatched by the Cincinnati Bengals in Sunday's 34-17 loss in Madrid, Spain. While the Falcons offense bounced back from an abysmal performance last week, the defense had no answers for Joe Burrow and the Bengals' high-octane passing attack.
Burrow dropped 24 points on Atlanta in the first half alone, and Cincinnati didn't punt until the third quarter. Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase put up a career-high 147 receiving yards in the first half. He finished with 10 total catches for 155 yards and a touchdown.
Aside from the defensive struggles, the Falcons played arguably their sloppiest game yet from a penalty standpoint. Multiple promising drives were killed by penalties as the team racked up 12 for 88 total yards.
Kicker Nick Folk also missed a field goal as his struggles continued.
The Bengals were favored for a reason, but fans were hoping the Falcons would show a little more backbone in Sunday's 17-point loss. Here's how NFL fans reacted to Atlanta's sloppy loss to the Bengals in Madrid.
NFL world reacts to Falcons-Bengals matchup in Madrid, Spain
Very clear the 49ers win was the outlier. Falcons have now dropped four of five games, all of them by at least a touchdown and the last two by 16+ points

As I type this the lights went out at the stadium, which is a little on the nose
We’ll see how much Ian Cunningham likes draft picks after this loss. Trade deadline about to come to a close and you can’t fault the team for being sellers

Getting rid of Zac Robinson and replacing him with Tommy Rees pic.twitter.com/3Y7TcIGmwT

You watched that game and didn’t think to yourself the Falcons need a brand new defense?!?!? What game were you watching? Bengals scored on 4 straight possessions

Ja’Marr Chase beats A.J. Terrell one on one downfield for the touchdown.

Eerily similar to this play in college. #Falcons pic.twitter.com/iwakgvnNb9
The Falcons need to be sellers RIGHT NOW.

No player or coach can be safe.
The trade deadline Tuesday at 4p. Falcons need to add to what they have now.
- ‘27 8 draft picks
- ‘28 7 draft picks
- ‘27 current #1 cap space in league ($143M)
Re-imagine the future of this franchise.
Bijan Robinson should get the football every play he’s upright & breathing without assistance!

My goodness he’s talented.
my mom is from Alcoa, TN so like all folks with east Tennessee roots, soft spot for Tee Higgins (Oak Ridge, TN). He’s a WR1, wildly unfair for him and Chase to be on the same team 😩

When Penix has time, Penix make plays…It’s literally THAT simple smh

Kevin Stefanski said Nick Folk is a "pro" and knows the Falcons are counting on him. Said he's focused on today when asked if changes are coming.
— Daniel Flick (@ByDanielFlick) November 8, 2026
Giving Kyle Pitts a $54M extension only to play him on 68%+ of offensive snaps in just ONE game so far is maddening.

Guy makes 107 FGs in a row, right up until he joins the Falcons. You just can't convince me this team isn't cursed, and I seem to say this several times a year
— Scott Kennedy (@ScoutKennedy) November 8, 2026
We are just not a good football team. We have good moments with good players, but we are just a terribly coached team with awful discipline.
— Scott Johns (@wsjohns88) November 8, 2026
It’s embarrassing. 9 losing seasons in a row
Can someone much more hip than I explain this celebration to me? https://t.co/u3mZMiDPo4

Penix: We know that's not who we want to be this season. We have to put that on display if we want to win football games. #Falcons
— Marc Raimondi (@marcraimondi) November 8, 2026
This is a really bad look for a team that talks a lot about being disciplined. That's a season-high 11 penalties.

The Falcons will have another big test next week against the Kansas City Chiefs at home.
