Notre Dame will take on the Miami Hurricanes in South Bend this weekend, and ESPN’s College GameDay will be in town as well.
The pregame show travels to a new location every week, and when they do, they always invite a guest of the host team to join the crew of Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban, and Pat McAfee to pick that game along with multiple others.
With so much history for the Irish, there are plenty of great people to pick from. Here is my top list of candidates to join ESPN College GameDay’s set and pick games with the group.
5 - Hannah Hidalgo
It would be fun to see Hidalgo get the nod, considering she’s one of the top current player in women’s college basketball. She hold multiple program and NCAA records, and has a chance to cement herself as one of the most
decorated players in the history of the game. I’m not sure how big of a football fan she is, but having Hidalgo on the show would be great for the university.
4 - Jerome Bettis
You’d have to bet that “The Bus” will be on campus anyways, as his son had his breakout game last weekend against Navy. It’d be perfect timing to have Bettis with GameDay, as he knows that game and would be very fun on set.
3 - Tim Brown
The last Heisman winner for the Irish, is still in the game as the league chairman and commissioner of The Arena League, which started in 2024. He’s been a host before, so being behind a mic isn’t something new for him. Plus, it would be great to hear from Brown.
2 - Manti Te’o
Who wouldn’t love to see Te’o back on campus? I surely would, as he’s a great representative for the program, and also has plenty of television experience as he currently works for the NFL Network. That probably would be the only thing holding him back, as he might have other job responsibilities on Saturday night.
1 - Joe Montana
“Joe Cool,” NFL Hall of Famer, four time Super Bowl champion, National Champion. The resume speaks for itself, and with head coach Marcus Freeman in charge, he’s been back to South Bend for multiple visit. This Saturday would be a perfect time for Montana’s next trip back home.
