Before JJ Jansen became a well-known long snapper in the NFL, he was a walk-on for Notre Dame in 2004.
Jansen went on to become the Fighting Irish’s long snapper from 2004 to 2007, handling punts and field goals for the team. After being an undrafted NFL free agent, He joined the Carolina Panthers. Seventeen years later, Jansen has made history.
In the Panthers’ 25-14 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Jansen broke the record for most career games played as a long snapper in NFL history with 282.
Jansen passed former NFL long snapper Trey Junkin (281), who played for eight different teams in his career from 1983 to 2002.
The record became official for Jansen when he snapped the ball for kicker Ryan Fitzgerald, who successfully booted a 47-yard
field goal to give Carolina an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter.
