Pat Murphy has racked up a slew of accomplishments in his short time as manager of the Milwaukee Brewers, and has made Notre Dame proud.
Murphy has guided the Brewers to back-to-back NLCS appearances. The 2026 season has been the most special so far for Milwaukee and the two-time National League Manager of the Year.
He led the Brewers to a league-best 103-59 record and the franchise’s first NL pennant and World Series appearance in 44 years.
Before Murphy was assisting the Brewers to the promised land, he coached baseball at Notre Dame. He was head coach for the Fighting Irish from 1988 to 1994, guiding Notre Dame to a compiled 318-116-1 record and NCAA regional final bids in 1992 through 1994.
In the seven seasons he coached at Notre Dame, he led
the team to 20-plus wins in four of the campaigns while the program competed in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (present-day Horizon League).
Murphy went on to coach at Arizona State in 1995-2009. He compiled a 629-284-1 record with the Sun Devils, and guided ASU to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances in 15 seasons.
The Sun Devils reached the College World Series in four of those seasons, including a runner-up finish in 1998. ASU also had two NCAA Super Regional bids in Murphy’s time as coach.
