Notre Dame football’s last national championship winning head coach, Lou Holtz, passed away earlier this year, and it looks like there could be an another tribute coming this weekend, with the team already wearing a helmet decal to honor him.
The Irish will host Miami, which was a significant opponent during his year’s leading the program. The loss in 1985, prior to Holtz’s arrival, pushed him to see the Hurricanes as Notre Dame’s top challenger. In 1988, the infamous “Catholics vs. Convicts” game was played, with the Irish narrowly defeating Miami, 31-30. A title was brought back to South Bend that year, cementing Holtz’s legacy.
On Sunday, Notre Dame football’s official social media account shared a video entitled “Continuing to honor the life
and legacy of Coach Holtz,” and at the end a short clip of some gold and blue stitching. This could be a teaser for a commemorative patch honoring the former coach.
We’ll most likely find out soon what this all means, but right now, many of us are wondering what Notre Dame is trying to tell us with the video, which you can see below.
