Freshman running back Jonaz Walton has proven in a short amount of time that he can be a long-term option for US LBM Coaches Poll No. 8 Notre Dame.
On3 recognized that potential by naming Walton to their Midseason True Freshman All-America Team. Walton is one of 22 freshmen selected and the lone running back on the list.
Charles Power of On3 said in his report that the freshmen selected “have lived up to the billing and others have emerged as breakout stars in their debut seasons.”
Walton has 426 yards rushing, three touchdowns and a 7.5 average-per-carry on 57 attempts so far for the Fighting Irish.
“Jonaz Walton has the look of a budding star in Notre Dame’s backfield, as the Fighting Irish look to fill the sizable void left by first-round draft
picks Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price,” Power said. “The Carrollton (Ga.) Central product has had a big October with breakout games against North Carolina (120 rushing yards) and Stanford (181 rushing yards, 2 TDs). The former Rivals300 prospect brings a combination of power and speed (10.60-seconds in the 100 meters) that bodes well for his long-term projection.”
