A college coach with ties to Notre Dame is at the helm of a recently suspended Division I men’s lacrosse team after the university announced an investigation into electronic communications.
Matt Karweck, the head coach of the Colgate men’s lacrosse team, is a 2006 graduate of Notre Dame. He has led the Raiders since 2018.
The Colgate-Maroon News reported on Tuesday that Yariv Amir, Colgate vice president and athletic director, and Paul J. McLoughlin II, vice president and dean of the university, stated in an email that they became aware of the communications on Oct. 26.
According to the report, the suspension is due to team members who allegedly “violated university policies and student conduct standards.”
The email did not disclose the alleged
communications, which policies were violated or how long the suspension will last for the team.
“As with all student conduct investigations, the University does not predetermine any findings of responsibility or of outcomes,” noted in Amir and McLoughlin’s joint statement.
Karweck played for the Fighting Irish in 2003-06, compiling 60 goals and 30 assists in 52 games. Before Colgate, Karweck was an assistant coach for six seasons at Notre Dame.
During his time with the Raiders, Karweck has racked up 44 wins and a Patriot League Tournament title in 2025.
Colgate has suspended its men’s lacrosse team pending an investigation into electronic communications among team members that may have violated the university’s policies and student conduct standards, the Colgate Maroon-News reported Tuesday.
