Another day, another new quarterback that US LBM Coaches Poll No. 3 Notre Dame is going up against on gameday.
The Fighting Irish (5-0) will host Stanford (2-3) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC. The Cardinal are coming off a 57-3 loss to Wake Forest, the team’s worst defeat this season.
Notre Dame will be facing Stanford senior QB Davis Warren, who is currently in his first season with the Cardinal. Warren has 1,207 passing yards, which is good for 32nd in the country, and has completed 59% of his passes for five touchdowns and an interception.
Warren’s best game so far was in Stanford’s 34-27 victory over Georgia Tech on Sept. 26. The senior signal caller was 22-of-36 on completions for 396 yards, three TDs and averaged 11 yards per successful
throw.
Also this season, Warren tied with former Stanford QB Davis Mills for the most consecutive passes without an interception (167). Mills had held the record by himself since 2020.
The Manhattan Beach (CA) native previously played at Michigan for three seasons, joining the team as a walk-on, before he transferred to Stanford. His best season with the Wolverines was in 2022, when he completed 64.1% of his passes for 1,199 yards, seven TDs and nine interceptions on a 114.7 QB rating.
For his career, Warren has 2,495 passing yards, 12 TDs, 11 interceptions and is 60.9% on completions with a 118.2 QB rating.
According to Irish Sports Daily, coach Marcus Freeman said at Monday’s press conference that Warren does a “good job throwing the football in the middle of the field.”
“If you give Davis Warren time, he will find ways to move the ball,” Freeman added.
Warren will go up against an Irish defense that is one of the best in the nation. Notre Dame are both 9th in opponent points (17.6) and opponent yards per game (4.4 yards), 11th in takeaways (1.9), 16th in opposing total yards (312.3) and 50th in opposing passing yards per game (213.4).
We need to have a conversation about Davis Warren.
