It’s no question that true freshman running back Jonaz Walton has been a force of nature in the US LBM Coaches Poll No. 2 Notre Dame’s backfield for the past two weekends.
Walton’s performance in the Fighting Irish’s 58-7 win over Stanford on Saturday led to him being recognized as the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week.
The weekly honor is a precursor to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, an honor given to the best freshman running back each season.
Walton ran for 181-yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries against the Cardinal. He now has 409 yards rushing on 52 attempts and a 7.9 average yard-per-carry.
