It’s not just that Notre Dame football’s 2028 class took a kicker extremely early, it might have gotten the best kicker in all of high school.
Owen Davies plays for Brentwood Academy in Tennessee, and over the weekend showed why he could be a massive recruiting win for the Irish. According to Joe Spears, who was on-hand for the game, Davies hit two field goals that “would've been good from 55+” along with every kickoff going out of the back of the end zone.
He didn’t just impress Spears, as 247Sports Tom Loy was also in attendance. He reported on multiple top-end players (subscription required) during the game, with Davies one of them. Loy said “he’s going to eventually become one of the nation’s best at the collegiate level. No doubt in my mind.”
It cannot be understated how important a kicker is, as we’ve seen over the past few years having one that is automatic isn’t always taken for granted. Notre Dame saw some struggles from the position in 2025, and went to the portal to make an upgrade with Purdue transfer Spencer Porath.
The Irish have a clear plan here, as Porath will be the starter over the next two seasons before opening up the door for Davies to take the spot. Hopefully it works out that way, as Notre Dame could have its kicker position locked up through the end of the decade.
