Former Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer has been holding his own since he entered the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023.
This season, Mayer has taken a big step forward. National insider Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday
that Mayer and the Raiders agreed to a 3-year extension worth $45 million with $30 million guaranteed. “The $15 million APY ranks fourth among current tight end contracts,” Rapoport posted on social media.Mayer is currently second on the tight end depth chart for Las Vegas. However, with starting TE Brock Bowers out for a few games due to a recent meniscus trim procedure, Mayer will likely get more reps as the season gets underway this weekend.
In three seasons so far with the Raiders, Mayer has 83 receptions for 788 yards
and three touchdowns. Las Vegas picked him 35th overall in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft.
Mayer played for the Fighting Irish from 2020 and 2022. A Consensus All-American in 2022, he compiled 180 catches for 2,099 receiving yards and 18 TDs in his college football career.
The Raiders will open their season today at home against the Miami Dolphins.
