For a few moments on Tuesday, Ohio State had the largest in NCAA history corporate sponsorship jersey patch, but Notre Dame would top it.
The Irish would best the Buckeyes $17 million-per-year deal with a $20 million-per-year of their own, pushing the bar even higher for every other team. It will be interesting to see if another team with best Notre Dame’s number, as surely some will try.
Back to the announcement, as there had been rumors of Ohio State’s big move for a little while, but the Irish had kept theirs under wraps. As social media user The 4 Horseman Podcast pointed out, this very well could have been Notre Dame waiting until the Buckeyes made theirs public before going with their even larger one.
It’s hard to say if this is the case
for sure, but wouldn’t it be fantastic if it were true? There is a budding rivalry with Ohio State, as the Irish faced them for three-straight years, one in the College Football Playoff championship game, only to fall each time. This very well could have been a form of revenge against the Big Ten foe, but Notre Dame would love to see them on the field to complete the act.

Notre Dame has a Jerry Jones streak where they like to steal the spotlight and maximize media coverage.
Genius move to let Ohio State announce their “industry leading deal” and then smash it hours later. https://t.co/a2Pwb4oN2u
