Notre Dame women’s basketball gets its 2026-2027 season started today, as it will face the Villanova Wildcats in Rome, Italy as part of the Eternal City Tip-Off.
The weekend already got off to a great start of the Irish, as they were able to meet Pope Leo XIV and presented him with some memorabilia, even though he might be rooting for the other side. Still, it is a honor for the Notre Dame team, a moment that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.
The Irish start the season as the No. 13 ranked team in both the AP and Coaches Poll, as Villanova was just receiving votes. Notre Dame has a superstar in guard Hannah Hidalgo, who is looking to continue her assault on school and NCAA records.
