The time has come for Notre Dame football to find out where it stands with the College Football Playoff committee.
The group started its meetings on Monday, as later today they will release live on ESPN the only rankings that matter, theirs. The Irish are hoping for a solid placement, as they’ll finally have an idea of what they’ll need to accomplish through the rest of the season, with a major focus on what happens this weekend again Miami.
We know that Notre Dame most likely won’t be ranked inside the top-3, as most likely it will be the Hurricanes, Georgia, and then Utah. So the high point for the Irish will be at No. 4, as multiple other teams will be vying for that spot. BYU holds an advantage, with the same 7-1 record, but the head-to-head
win that the committee will view as the difference maker.
UCLA is undefeated, but hasn’t really been challenged, as the Bruins best win is over Oregon, who has fallen out of the US LBM Coaches Poll. Indiana has an argument to be over their in-state foes, but they haven’t really passed the look test over the last few weeks. Kentucky is in this range as well, but they’ve been kinda lucky with a few games.
At worst, Notre Dame will be No. 8, and at best, it will be ranked No. 4. Let’s say they split the difference and start off at No. 6 in the CFP’s initial rankings, but could make a major move by defeating the Hurricanes this weekend.
They’ve left their hats at the door and the first CFP Selection Committee Meeting of the season is officially underway! 🏆#CFP pic.twitter.com/EtU6zhKcaO
