The USA Women’s Basketball overwhelmed its opponent for the second straight game at the FIBA World Cup in Germany, this time a 108-56 result over Hungary in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Once again, former Notre Dame standouts Jackie Young and Sonia Citron contributed to Team USA’s efforts. Young finished with 10 points and a steal for the Americans. The Las Vegas Aces' all-star shooting guard has a USA team-leading 11 points per game. Citron – a Washington Mystics All-Star – recorded a bucket, two rebounds and a steal.
Team USA is now 4-0 at the FIBA World Cup. The Americans will face Spain in the semifinals on Saturday. Spain beat Australia, 89-66, in Thursday’s quarterfinal round. The Spanish are 3-1 so far in the tournament.
The winner of
USA-Spain will take on either Germany or France in the Women’s World Cup final on Sunday.
