One of the biggest developments in Notre Dame’s win over Navy was the status of multiple injured defensive players one of them being linebacker Drayk Bowen.
Following the game, John Brice reports that the captain “suffered what multiple individuals with direct knowledge of the situation described to USA TODAY Sports as a ‘significant’ ankle injury,” putting major doubt in his status moving forward. With Miami next on the schedule, a game that Notre Dame has to win, it’s a massive blow to the Irish defense.
Brice’s report believes that Bowen will miss the remainder of the regular season, at minimum and could potentially cost him a chance to play in the postseason. This isn’t news that anyone wanted to hear, as head coach Marcus Freeman said following
the game that he’ll know more about his status on Sunday.
If Brice’s report is correct, Notre Dame loses not only a captain, but the green dot player, the one who communicates with defensive coordinator Chris Ash to call the plays. We’ll find out tomorrow if Bowen is indeed out for an extended period.
