Former Notre Dame women’s basketball Olivia Miles is having arguably the best season as a WNBA rookie in history.
Miles is already playing at an elite level, especially when she became the new WNBA rookie single-season scoring record holder this season.
She is also on a Minnesota Lynx squad that is 33-11 and the top seed in the WNBA playoffs. When Miles team capped the regular season with an 86-66 win over the Indiana Fever, she officially accomplished a rare feat that’s been only done once before.
According to ESPN, Miles became the second rookie in NBA or WNBA history to lead the league’s best team in scoring with 19.8 points per game. The other rookie? NBA Hall of Famer and Boston Celtics legends Larry Bird in the 1979-80 season.
Bird, an Indiana
native and former Indiana State men’s basketball star, averaged 21.3 points per game when the Celtics had an NBA-best 61-21 record.
In Miles’ time at Notre Dame, she played for the Irish in 2021-25 and was a 3-time All-ACC first team nod.
Miles and the Lynx will face the New York Liberty in the first round of the WNBA playoffs.
