Notre Dame football didn’t get the prettiest win during Week 5, a 37-26 road triumph over North Carolina, but it was enough for them to continue to lose ground on the top spots in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
The Irish entered the week No. 3 with 1,641 points, three first place votes, and with the update is now at 1,630 points and lost two first place votes with no change in their ranking. The top two teams remained unchanged, with Texas being idle and Georgia defeating Vanderbilt. Miami and Indiana round out the top-5.
Obviously one of Notre Dame biggest remaining games is against the Hurricanes, which could be a top-5 matchup. The Irish will have to get past a potential top-10 opponent before that, as BYU is now sitting at No. 8, that game being
just two weekends away. SMU also continued to stay ranked at No. 21, so there are still three ranked opponents remaining on Notre Dame’s schedule.
