Losing brings questions. Particularly when it comes to the quarterback position. And especially when it involves the number one overall pick waiting in the wings. The Raiders have lost four straight games with Kirk Cousins starting, so the questions have come on quickly as to whether Las Vegas is ready to make the switch to Fernando Mendoza.
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak addressed it Monday and made it clear he is sticking with Kirk Cousins at least for this week.
"Kirk is our starting quarterback," said Kubiak. "There is no controversy there and he's got to continue to do that for us to win... excited for him to go play here against the Jets."
Kubiak went on to say that Cousins remaining the starter is because the Raiders are "prioritizing winning
the next game." He clearly still believes he can do that with Kirk, who he pointed out earlier this week was signed because Cousins went 4-0 as a starter last season with the Falcons.
As for Mendoza, Kubiak said "We're developing him along the way. That has not changed. That's been the plan all along."
If Cousins is able to lead the Raiders to a win in New York, the questions may die down, at least temporarily. If the Raiders lose to the Jets next Sunday, the question will be posed again.
