This week was the deadline for the Raiders to activate WR Dont'e Thornton from injured reserve. And with that activation, they needed to make a corresponding move. It was former starting DT Jonah Laulu who was cut to make room, no doubt hoping he would clear waivers so they could bring him back onto the practice squad. Well, that is not going to happen.
Laulu was claimed off waivers by the Titans today, ending his tenure with the Raiders.
And with a practice squad spot open, the Raiders signed former Falcons third round EDGE Braden Trice instead.
Originally a round seven pick by the Colts in 2024, Laulu was waived at the end of his first training camp and claimed by the Raiders. He appeared in 39 games in Las Vegas since then, starting 22 of those
games. He put up 91 tackles with 5.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and 12 QB hits.
Laulu appeared in five games this season, but was inactive in Week 7 along with Thomas Booker IV in favor of second year man JJ Pegues. It was clear Laul had fallen out of favor with the new staff at a crowded position in need of a jolt. The top three at the position are Tonka Hemingway, Adam Butler, and Folorunso Fatukasi.
