Literally just yesterday, the Raiders made a move that had them activating TE Carter Runyon from injured reserve. And in a corresponding move they waived WR Cody White. Then White was back at practice on Thursday, which many expected considering the Raiders would very likely want him on the practice squad should he clear waivers.
The thing is, though, he was back on the active roster. And Runyon, whose activation was the reason for White getting cut, was waived.
Quite the okeedoke there.
There is one possible explanation. Follow me on this. They wanted both players available to them right now. With Runyon on IR, they had to either activate him or place him on IR for the remainder of the season. If they had waived him with an injury settlement,
he would have to be out for at least another three weeks before he could return to the team or sign with another team.
But this way, they get Cody White back and, should Runyon clear waivers, he can be placed on the practice squad, making him available immediately as well.
That's the only thing that makes sense here. And, honestly, if it all works out as they hope, it's kinda slick.
